Our cat Chakra lived to be almost 21 years old. She was a tiny cat, only weighing about 5 lbs, but she was such a fighter. She loved humans but attacked any animal that came near her, for almost all of her life. It was as if she was always looking around, thinking something was going to get her. The year she turned 19, she changed; became neutral toward our other animals and seemed not notice them at all. Then one day, a few months before she died, Jack saw her sleeping on Noah’s side (on our old pink chair) and he took this photograph (which he just had framed and gave to me for my 56th birthday).
Noah was around for the last 5 years of her life and yet she didn’t realize what a great pillow/pal he could be until the end. I love this about Noah. When Chakra changed, and stopped attacking him, he didn’t say, “Hey, you have been terrible to me for all of these years, don’t think that I’m going to let you off the hook so easily, now that you want to be friends!” When she was ready to change, he was there to enjoy the new her…such a great lesson.
